My First Jump

So you’ve decided to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. What now?

The first thing you need to do is sign up for the Falling Illini Announce Mailing List , which will keep you updated with all the latest Falling Illini news.

The next thing to do is to decide what type of jump you want to make. We offer three different kinds. Our cheapest and most popular is a Static-Line jump, which is a solo jump from 4,500′. If you are looking for free-fall right away, we have the Tandem jump, where you are attached to an instructor and jump from 13,500′. Finally there is the Accellerated Free Fall jump, which is a solo jump from 13,500′, and is the most intense (and expensive) jump.

Read over the Frequently Asked Questions to learn about all the nitty-gritty details.

Once you have decided what jump you want to make, you should email Mike ( and let him know when you want to go, what type of jump you want to make, your phone number, and if you have your own car.

The Big Day

When the big day arrives, we’ll meet in front of the Green Street entrance to the Union at 8 am and head on down to the dropzone. If you aren’t driving, you should bring at least $5 to help your driver pay for gas. You should also bring some money for lunch and dinner. You should expect to be there all day. Sometimes a car will return to Champaign early, but usually we stay for the full day of jumping.

Wear comfortable clothes that are appropriate for the temperature. Shorts, jeans, sweats, t-shirts, and sneakers are all good choices.

If you have any questions, email us. We love to talk about skydiving.
